This magnificent antique Victorian 15ct Gold hand carved Medusa Cameo Brooch is Circa 1860.
The Cameo depicts the Gorgon Medusa who was known in Greek mythology for her venomous stare which was said to turn any who gazed upon her to stone.
This depiction of Medusa sees her with wings upon her head and a snake slithering through her long hair.
The Cameo boasts stunning high relief workmanship, hand carved from a Bullmouth shell which has been popular for many years as a base for Cameo carvings for it’s beautiful natural patterning.
The Cameo is framed in a stunning 15ct Yellow Gold frame which is beautifully engraved.
The piece is fitted with a secure pin and catch and complete with safety chain too.
This is a highly collectable brooch that’s steeped in Victorian history, a real work of art!
